New Capitol Hill and ID Bars Will Serve Chinese and Korean Street Food

Two cocktail bars are in the works from Oasis Tea Zone owner I-Miun Liu. The first, Dynasty Room, will open on April 1 in the International District, taking the place of the defunct Four Seas restaurant. Next, in the former Sun Liquor Distillery space on Capitol Hill’s Pike Street, Liu will open East Trading Company. Both establishments will have similar bents, with herbal- and tea-infused cocktails, Eastern art influences from designer Electric Coffin, and a menu of Chinese- and Korean-inflected food.

The menus aren’t set yet, but at both establishments diners might see items like chicken wings, deep-fried eggplant, dried squid, Korean rice cakes (dokbokki), deep-fried spare ribs, and other Chinese and Korean street food. As for the cocktails, Liu enlisted former Ba Bar bar manager Michael Chu for herbal- and tea-infused drinks, including a spin on classics like the Mai Tai, at both places.

Come April 1, there will once again be life in the shuttered Four Seas Restaurant, which served Chinese food starting in the 1960s. The Dynasty Room borrows its name from the back bar at the Four Seas, but the vintage feel will be replaced by new design courtesy of Electric Coffin: Eastern-influenced art, a glowing red entrance remade to resemble a “sacred temple,” and custom wallpaper. When it opens, Dynasty Room’s hours will be 4 p.m. to close.

Liu, who has partnered with Mi Kim on her Raised Donuts pop-up, originally planned a doughnut shop for the Sun Liquor Distillery space. Instead, he’s opening East Trading Company, which will have “a 1920s Shanghai apothecary feel.” It’s eyeing a May 14 opening.
